adding pedigrees

I am trying to add my first pedigree and am trying to type a new dog that has never been added ... how can I do this?

OR... do all the dogs in the pedigree have to be pre-added so they appear in the column at the left to drag and drop??

To use the pedigree feature, the dog needs to be in your database first. Go to Dogs/General add all of your dogs there. After the dogs are added to the database, then you can use the drag and drop feature. When adding dogs, it is usually helpful to add libraries first. Go to Customize/Dog Puppy Libraries. Having your libraries added first, will help you efficiently add your dogs.

ok, thanks I did that. After entering about 12 dogs and all pedigrees I had one that kept giving me a "This Dog cannot be it's own parent" warning. I cannot figure out why that is... I've checked to make sure I've put in the right names/dogs there are not duplications or anything ... can you explain why its telling me this? something I'm not checking?

It is because you are trying to add a dog back into itself. For instance, you are creating the pedigree for Rutlands Lil Bret. You are already on Bret's file, so the program already takes him into account when creating the pedigree. So the first dogs you enter are his parents, not Lil Bret.

I get that...but im adding a dog in the middle of the pedigree of a different dog like in the 3rd generation, and it's not any dog entered anywhere else... nor the dog I'm on. See attachment to your email . the blank spot in 3rd gen I'm trying to enter "Tegan Park Casper" ...it wont allow it and gives me that message.

Try deleting Casper and reenter
